Function / Content

This series consists of records from a review of secondary education in the Northern Territory. The Senior Secondary sector was restructured in 1986 to a system of Junior High Schools, Secondary Colleges and Comprehensive High Schools with a resultant rapid increase in retention rates to Years 11 and 12. The Northern Territory Council of Government School Organisations [COGSO] proposed the review at the instigaton of Casuarina Secondary College to assess if the educational aims of this 1986 review had been achieved. The Northern Territory Education Advisory Council was tasked by the Minister to undertake a review of secondary education focussing on: the transfer of year 7 students to high schools in Darwin and other Territory centres; and to analyse the state of Territory High Schools and Secondary Colleges in Darwin and Alice Springs.
